Southeast Electric Cooperative Inc. is excited to announce that they have chosen two students to attend the 2025 NRECA Youth Tour. Corlan Laughery and Kayleigh Opstedahl/Nisley will embark on an unforgettable journey to our nation’s capital in June of 2025. This year the students were asked, “What was the most important event to have occurred in our nation during your lifetime? How did it affect you?”  It isn’t surprising that both students wrote about the pandemic, although Kayleigh pointed out the immigration on the southern border, hurricanes, wildfires, and the escalation of violence have also been very prevalent in the last 16 years. They both shared how it seemed like overnight they went from going to school to doing schoolwork online and being isolated. Corlan talked about how her family often buys groceries in bulk and how that was restricted because of supply and demand. They both found positive aspects. Corlan liked the fact that she got to spend more time with her family. Kayleigh realized that she liked learning online. Corlan is the daughter of Carl and Camille Laughery. She is currently a junior at Carter County High School. Kayleigh is the daughter of Libby Nisley of Broadus. She is also a junior and attends school at Powder River County District High School. Both girls are very involved in FFA and 4-H. Congratulations Corlan and Kayleigh!
